Retro Bowl College: same field, different front office

Retro Bowl College is also by New Star Games and plays the same way on the field: you aim every pass and the game resolves the rest. The difference is the job around it. You coach a college team, so the pro front office is replaced by an Athletics Office, and several systems work differently. These notes come from the game's own help text.

Admissions instead of the draft

Between seasons there is no rookie draft. Instead, College Admissions lets you spend the program's Scholarship Fund to recruit freshmen to replace key players who left at the end of the previous year. As in Retro Bowl, you have to scout a freshman to reveal his potential, and the number of players you can scout in each admissions round is limited.

The Scholarship Fund is not a salary cap

The game makes the point itself: the Scholarship Fund does not work like a pro salary cap. You can only spend what you have already earned, and once it is gone it is gone. The fund fills up from donations when your senior players declare for the pro draft, and you get extra donations if a player declares in his junior year. Upgrading the stadium raises the upper limit of the fund, so you can keep more of those donations.

Cutting a player is called revoking his scholarship. Doing it during admissions puts some money back in the fund; cutting at any other time in the season does not. You always earn more for the fund by keeping a player until he graduates as a senior. And if you cut a key player, or one is forced out of the team, you cannot recruit a replacement until the start of the next season.

GPA is a new rating to manage

College players have a GPA from 1.0 (or 0.0) up to 4.0, and few players ever reach 4.0. GPA drops during the season while players focus on football. Players with a low GPA can be suspended and miss games while they study. Benching a player gives him more study time. The HARD training regime gains more XP but lowers GPA faster. You can also raise it with coaching credits in the player's Meeting menu. Each institution sets its own minimum GPA, and juniors and seniors must keep a higher GPA than freshmen and sophomores. A player whose GPA stays low, or who gets into too much trouble, may be forced to leave the team.

The rest of the shelf

Retro Bowl is the only game on this site that runs from a copy we host ourselves. The others are HTML5 builds embedded from the game host that serves our sites, and nothing loads until you press Play. Here is what is on the site today, grouped the way the games page groups them:

  • American football: Retro Bowl College Football, Football Legends, 2 Minute Football Classic, American Football Real, and four editions of 4th and Goal (2022, 2023, 2024 and 2026). Football Masters is listed under two-player games.
  • Other sports: Basketball Stars, Basketball Legends, Basketball Real, Basketball Superstars, Blumgi Ball, Little Master Cricket, Goal Gang, Flick Goal, and Penalty Shooters, Penalty Shooters 2 and Penalty Shooters X.
  • Classics and arcade: Tetris, Minesweeper, Snake, Google Snake, Doodle Jump, Red Ball 4, OvO Dimensions, Bubble Charms, Bobble, Blumgi Castle, Cat Mario and two Super Mario fan builds.

Each game has its own page with the controls and a short guide.

If a game does not load

We can fix Retro Bowl directly because we host it. The embedded games sometimes move or break upstream. If one fails, tell us which one through the contact page and we will repair or replace it.
